Why Does Elon Musk Have So Many Children?
The CEO of Tesla and X (formerly known as Twitter) has been very vocal over the years and is known for creating controversy. His most recent shocking appearances were for Donald Trump’s presidential campaigns. Even though Elon wasn’t always a Republican, he became a huge fan of Trump. He is more active in politics than he has ever been before. He even got an important state function. President-elect Donald Trump announced that Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will lead what he’s calling a new “Department of Government Efficiency”.
Trump also said in a recent statement that he believes these two strong men will pave the way for his Administration to dismantle the Government Bureaucracy, cut unnecessary expenditures, slash excess regulations, and restructure Federal Agencies.
It’s obvious that Trump’s plans are huge, and everyone is a little bit shocked by the choices that he already made. The people he has taken to be by his side for this journey were also seen as surprises. There were no extra details given about the newly founded department. We guess that all we have to do is wait and see what happens.
Who are Justine Wilson, Claire Elise Boucher (known as Grimes), and Shivon Zilis?
Justine Wilson and Elon Musk married in 2000 and divorced in 2008. She is a modern fantasy author, her first book is called “BloodAngel” and was released in 2005. The couple met in college and welcomed 6 children together.
In 2018, Elon Musk started dating Grimes, a Canadian musician and record producer who made her public debut 2018 with Musk at the Met Gala. In 2021, she described the relationship with Musk as being “very fluid” and even though they had 3 children together, they are more like best friends.
Last but not least (for now) is Shivon Zilis. She is the third woman who welcomed one of Elon Musk’s children. In 2021, everyone found out that Zilis was the project director at Musk’s brain implant chip company. Shortly, the couple welcomed their first twins, and not long after Grimes welcomed a baby girl via surrogate.
In September 2023, when the babies were 16 months old, the couple shared their sexes and names. Zili made sure to respond on X, saying that she is also very happy for baby Tau and can’t wait for the kids to play together.

1. Nevada Alexander Musk (2002-2002) with Justine Wilson
Musk and his first wife welcomed their first child together, in 2002. Their son was named Nevada and reportedly passed away from complications related to sudden infant death syndrome when he was just 10 weeks old. In February 2022, Musk wrote in an email that his son died in his arms. He felt his last heartbeat. It wasn’t an easy experience for Musk, he was clearly affected by his loss considering that he is still thinking about that hard time.
In the end, Elon Musk is not just the richest man in the world, he’s also a father.
2. Griffin Musk (2004) with Justine Wilson
After their son’s death, Elon and Griffin Musk welcomed their twins, Griffin and Vivian Musk. They were conceived via in vitro fertilization, according to the New York Times. This information was made public only in October 2024. In May 2024, after attending an event with his eldest son, Elon Musk wrote on X and informed everyone that that was his son. The post received a lot of appreciation. Even though Elon Musk is a very controversial public figure, we all must admit that his kids are super cute.
3. Vivian Jenna Wilson (2004) with Justine Wilson
Vivian is a twin to brother Griffin and was born under the name Xavier Alexander Musk. Vivian first revealed her transgender identity through a text message to her aunt. She even bagged her aunt to keep it secret from her father.
In 2022, 3 days after her 18th birthday, she filed a court petition to change her name and gender. Vivian claimed that she no longer wants to be associated with her father in any form.
4. Kai Musk (2006) with Justine Wilson
After having a pair of twins, Wilson and Musk welcomed triplets who were born in 2006. The birth order of Kai, Saxon, and Damian is unknown. Under a photo that went viral on X with Musk, his children, and the Prime Minister of India, Musk wrote: “Damian and Kai”. The CEO of Tesla wanted to make sure that everyone knew who were the little boys from the photo.
5. Saxon Musk (2006) with Justine Wilson
Saxon is one of the triplets born in 2006. Musk mentioned Saxon multiple times on X, showing us how creative the small kid is. In 2022, Saxon said that it would be great if there was a World Party Day. A day when all of us party. Sounds fun? If in the future, Musk will introduce something similar, at least we’ll know where his idea came from.
6. Damian Musk (2006) with Justine Wilson
Damian is also one of the triplets. Musk wasn’t that open about Damian, there is not much public information about him. In 2021, Elon Musk commented on a video with his son who was playing piano, and basically, that’s all.
7. X Æ A-Xii Musk (2020) with Grimes
They call this child “X” but they have some problems with the name. In order to align with California laws, the parents needed to change the name on the birth certificate. Right after the baby was born and the world found out about his name, there was a lot of controversy going on. Nobody understood how the name should be read. Musk was a special guest in “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast and he explained how the child’s name is correctly pronounced “X Ash A Twelve”. Elon Must said that the name was his partner’s idea and he just came up with the “A-12” to make it more interesting.
X is probably the most famous child from Musk’s family. His name gained him popularity all around the globe.
8. Exa Dark Sideræl Musk (2021) with Grimes
Exa was born in 2021 via surrogate. In an interview for Vanity Fair, back in 2022, Grimes explained how the baby’s name should be pronounced. Are you curious? Here is the correct pronunciation: “sigh-deer-ee-el”, but don’t worry, her nickname is way easier “Y”.
Grimes also told the magazine that she and Musk are best friends and don’t live in the same house but still want more children together. Right after the article was released in March 2022, Grimes announced the end of their relationship.
9. Techo Mechanicus Musk (2022) with Grimes
Techo Mechanicus Musk was born in June 2022 and is nicknamed “Tau”. Grimes shared on X that she would love to show everyone how cute the baby is but they really want to be private when it comes to their children. She kindly asked everyone to respect their privacy. In September 2023, the couple broke up again. As you can see, Elon Musk has never really had a serious relationship, they were more like partnerships for his children. It doesn’t seem like any of his relationships were based on strong love feelings.
10. Strider Musk (2021) with Shivon Zilis
In November 2021, Elon Musk and Shivon Zilis welcomed their twins. The one who shared some information about the babies was Walter Isaacson. He even said about Zilias that she is Musk’s “intellectual companion on artificial intelligence”. That’s basically everything we know about the twins. Oh, and let’s not forget about the unique photo Isaacson shared with the babies and their parents.
11. Azure Musk (2021) with Shivon Zilis
Reportedly, Musk built a $35 million family compound in Texas for all of his children and two of their moms. Zillis moved into the house and shared a video of her twins running and playing together. There is no other available information about Azure Musk.
12. Child whose name is not known (2024) with Shivon Zilis
Elon Musk and Shivon Zilis have welcomed their third child together in 2024 but the gender is still unknown. In June 2024, Musk told Page Siz that if the press doesn’t know information, it shouldn’t be called a secret. All their loved ones know the name and gender of their third child. He also made sure to say that all his family is safe and happy, living in Texas.
