I don’t know about you, but I have been attracted to celebrities and their glamorous lives since I was a little child. Whenever I saw that there was a TV show with one of my favorite celebs, I was all eyes and ears.
I wanted to see what they were wearing, how they were talking to each other, who was in a relationship with who, and so many other things. Even though I grew up and I developed other interests, I still watched celebrity gossip and reality shows.
Now, I am more drawn towards more cultural and luxurious events, such as the Oscars or the Met Gala. I know that these are not the only things that happen in Hollywood.
I need to know more about them and I want to be there, even if my “attendance” means staying with the laptop on my desk and writing about it.
I am pretty sure that I am not the only woman out there who wants to know all the parties and shows that happen in Hollywood, so I did a bit of research. From the Oscars, The Grammy Awards, to the Black Women In Hollywood Awards, we will discuss all of them in today’s article.
With that being said, dear Hollywood, get ready, because here I come!
1. The Oscars
In 1927, while he was hosting a dinner at his home, Louis B. Mayer, the chief of MGM studios, talked to his guest about creating an organization that the film industry could benefit from.
A few days later after the discussion, 36 people who were part of the creative divisions of the film industry dined at Los Angeles’s Ambassador Hotel.
The dinner wasn’t just a meal between people who worked in the same domain, but it was actually an event where everyone could hear an extraordinary proposal: to found the International Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The guests liked the idea and shortly after, there were a lot of articles of incorporation. As we all know by now, every organization needs to have a leader and in this case, Douglas Fairbanks was elected as president.
The winners in every category receive a golden statuette that is the shape of a knight that was popular in the Art Deco style. This trophy is called the “Academy Award of Merit” and people refer to it by its nickname, the “Oscar”.
The statuette was initially sculpted by George Stanley and it was inspired by a sketch that was created by Cedric Gibbons. The first edition of the Oscars took place in 1929, during a private dinner at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, hosted by Douglas Fairbanks.
2. The Grammy Awards
If you are a fan of music, this awards show is for you! This important event in Hollywood was called the Gramophone Award in the beginning, but people nowadays refer to it as the Grammys.
This award is given by the Recording Academy, as recognition of the “Outstanding Achievement in the music industry” in the United States of America. As you already know, the trophy is in the shape of a gilded gramophone.
The Grammys is a show full of talent and creativity and it’s part of the Big Three networks’ important music awards that is held every year, which includes the Billboard Music Awards in the summer and the American Music Awards in the fall.
The Grammy Awards are not as old as the Oscars. The first edition of this fabulous event took place on May 4, 1959, as a way to honor and congratulate the musical successes of performers for the year 1958.
3. The Black Women In Hollywood Awards
Even though we live in one of the biggest and most beautiful countries that could ever exist, we have to be honest and address the fact that we still have a lot of issues to solve.
One of the most predominant problems that our country still pursues is racism. There are a lot of people who still believe that the white race is more important and entitled compared to the other ones.
Another big issue that still exists even to this day is the fact that females are still labeled by size, weight, clothes, race, the business they are in, and so many other things.
With that being said, I am very happy that our country decided to create an event to celebrate women and most importantly, black women that are in Hollywood.
In 2007, Essence magazine, a publication that is designed for African-American women, launched a big event to celebrate their community.
The festival is called Black Women In Hollywood and it acts as the center stage for achievements on screen and a celebration of female voices who use their power to transform and develop the art of storytelling.

4. Women of the World
Another event that was created to celebrate all the females around the globe is the festival Women of the World. Since 2010, this huge event has taken place on March 8th, to mark International Women’s Day.
This event honors girls, women, and non-binary people regardless of age or race. This festival lasts for three days and it brings together performers, musicians, activists, comedians, and world-class speakers to provoke conversations that are life-changing, interactive workshops, and artistic performances.
This event is the perfect place for discussions ranging from childlessness, career shifts, divorce, motherhood, and politics, to intimacy.
5. The National Film Awards
If the Oscars is not your thing, but you still want to watch something about the movie industry, then The National Film Awards (NFA) is for you! This gala is an awards ceremony that has taken place every year since 1999, to support and promote actors, filmmakers, and overall talented people that make up the industry of motion picture.
At this festival, the ones who are responsible for all the voting and nominations are the fans. The NFA puts on several workshops, premieres, conferences, festivals, and seminars in a lot of countries, such as the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Germany, and France.
6. Met Gala Ball
If I’m being honest, the Met Gala Ball is actually my favorite event, and it takes place in New York City! I love to see celebrities’ costumes, the presenters, the themes, the decor because every single detail you see is absolutely incredible!
An interesting fact about this ball is the fact that it is formally called the Costume Institute Benefit or the Costume Institute Gala, but there are many people who refer to it as “Celebrities’ Biggest Night” or “Fashion’s Biggest Night”.
If we think about it, they are not wrong, because that is the night when all fashion designers try to stand out more and the famous people in Hollywood are all glammed up and ready for the paparazzi.
This huge event is actually a fundraising ball organized by Vogue haute couture magazine and is held for the prosperity of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City.
The Met Gala marks the opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exposition on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Every edition of this ball honors the particular theme of that year’s Costume Institute display and the show sets the tone for the ceremonial dress of the night.
As we all know by now, the guests are expected to coordinate their outfit choices with the theme of that year’s exhibit. If you ask me, the celebrities don’t seem to disappoint!
