The least-favored entry in Sylvester Stallone’s legendary boxing series, Rocky V, has received negative reviews and attracted little attention at the box office. But if you look closely enough, you can figure out the shape of an incredibly moving tale about a former heavyweight champion who becomes bankrupt, loses his boxing skills, and almost loses his connection with his son.
Sage Stallone, Stallone’s own 14-year-old son, played the role of Robert “Rocky Jr.” Balboa in the movie. Sage’s time on the set clearly had a positive impact on the young Stallone, as Sage decided to continue working in the film industry after college on small, low-key projects, establishing a career apart from his blockbuster-leading father. Sage sadly passed away on July 13th, 2012, at the age of 36, from a cardiac arrest caused by coronary artery disease.
