Amish people are well-known for their educational philosophy. Most children attend school in one-room private schools, and their formal education only lasts through the 8th grade.
According to the Amish, education above the 8th-grade level doesn’t correspond to their simplistic way of life and, therefore, is unnecessary. One of the key reasons is practicality, and since the Amish community thrives on agriculture and manual trade, they believe that children can learn more from hands-on experience that will prove to be more valuable to the community.
Plus, followers believe that kids may be influenced by ideas that are against the Ordnung rules if educated above the 8th grade level.
