10. Hostess Choco-Bliss

In the golden age of snack cakes, Hostess was an empire, with Twinkies and CupCakes as its crown jewels. But the company also produced a vast array of other treats, many of which have been lost to time. One of the most decadent and mourned of these is the Choco-Bliss. This was not a snack for the faint of heart.

Introduced in the 1980s, the Choco-Bliss was a rich, two-layer devil’s food cake filled with a chocolate creme, enrobed in a thick layer of milk chocolate, and then topped with a chocolate drizzle. It was a chocolate lover’s dream, an unapologetically indulgent snack that stood in stark contrast to the light, spongy Twinkie. For those who found other Hostess products a bit too simple, the Choco-Bliss was the answer.

Like many secondary product lines, Choco-Bliss was likely discontinued due to sales that, while perhaps respectable, couldn’t compete with the iconic mainstays. When Hostess Brands went through its well-publicized bankruptcy and restructuring in the 2010s, its product portfolio was significantly trimmed to focus on the most profitable items. The Choco-Bliss did not make the cut for the company’s revival. It lives on in the memories of 80s kids as one of the most intensely chocolatey snacks ever to grace a vending machine.
