Magnus Carlsen
GM Magnus Carlsen is the reigning world champion for three-time controls (standard, rapid, and blitz). As of 2009, he became the youngest player in the entire history to reach that 2800-rating threshold, and on April 21st, 2014, he reached a peak rating and the highest rating ever, which is 2889.
Since 2011, he has been the number-one player, and he didn’t stop dominating the game ever since. His resume is already considered more than enough to be seen as the number two on the list of best players of all time, but he’s only 29 years old…so who knows if he has even reached his peak playing strength!
