Bobby Fischer

GM Bobby Fischer was the 11th official world champion but also the first and only American world champion. He is regarded as the most famous chess player that ever lived. From 1970 to 1971, Fischer managed to win 20 consecutive games against world-class opposition, which was unprecedented and a mind-blowing achievement that was never equaled.

This is also counted among the seven most amazing chess records. In 1972, Fischer managed to defeat Spassky in the “Match of the Century”, being crowned world champion, even if he started the match with a 0-2 score after he threw away game one in a completely equal endgame, and didn’t even show up for game two.
