7. Threatening Nuclear Annihilation
In January 2018, Trump famously mocked North Korean leader Kim Jong Un by posting a tweet about his “bigger and more powerful” nuclear button. Such an empty threat of a nuclear attack sent a chill across the world, but it was just a joke compared with his message to Iran’s leader sent in July 2018.
Diplomats were forced to accept the fact that the US may tip itself into a devastating conflict on the basis of a late-night missive that bypassed military officials.
Trump eventually made things clear, tweeting at some point that his tweets would be enough to legally notify Congress of a war.
