2. Your free breakfast isn’t really free

Free continental breakfasts are so popular among hungry visitors that several hotels are going all out with their morning offerings. Is that dish of eggs and waffles, on the other hand, truly free? Perhaps not.

For starters, the cost of the meal is simply included in the room rate, yet eating at the hotel may still be less expensive than taking the entire family to IHOP.

Then there’s the matter of your complimentary coffee’s hidden expenses. Free hotel breakfasts imply fewer wait staff employment, more waste damaging the environment in the form of all those throwaway plates and cups, and the health ramifications of the generally unhealthy cuisine you’re eating.

This is not the first time I have told this story because it was that unbelievable. We were there for a wedding under the name White.

Im off to a hopefully stress free 48 hours at greensprings resort up in Williamsburg Va I’m from the beach area and have four boys and my Aussie shepherd and hubby so that’s a lot like taking my stress with me yet I have high hopes that this not to horrible pick will be not better than wolf lodge just at least a weekend getaway yet not away

  5. So True!
Even major chains (like Marriott) have hotels that are very questionable. Just spent a night in a hotel in San Luis Obispo, CA; highly rated and recently became a Marriott property. The stay was horrible in that when you showered, the entire bathroom area flooded. Water everywhere; took many many towels and time to mop up the water to ensure safety and usability of the room! Have you tried to walk on a floor that’s full of water? Notified hotel staff and Marriott but neither party has offered to adjust the rate which came close to $400.00 a night with all the tacked on fees! Additional insult to us was, staff was aware that some of their rooms had the flooding problem. Am a “Marriot Bonvoy member” but, loyalty membership doesn’t guarantee satisfaction!!!
    Great article!
