Asked how the whole event felt, Dr. Ken Strumpf from Syracuse, N.Y., responded that he “can taste the air.” The smoke was enveloped in an amber pall that resembled the kind of atmosphere that we used to see only in science fiction movies or on Mars.
As some other citizens confirmed, the smoke made people feel a little dizzy. Canadian officials explained that this is expected to be one of the nation’s worst wildfire seasons ever. It all started on drier-than-usual ground, and it got way worse very soon, exhausting dozens of firefighting teams and resources from all over the country, as fire and environmental officials confirmed.
