1. Mike Tyson: Imprisonment and Divorce
Mike Tyson earned his fortune as an American boxing icon. He became so famous that he even inspired a Nintendo video game. Unfortunately, as impressive as his career journey was in the beginning, so was his descent from riches to rags—in a bad way.
As of the late ’80s, Tyson started facing both personal and legal issues. The divorce he went through played a part in his collapse, as he grew increasingly out of shape and started to develop a bad reputation. Not long after this episode, he was found guilty of rape charges and was originally sentenced to 10 years in jail, although the sentence was later reduced to only three years.
Once the boxer got out of prison, it all looked like he was about to make a comeback in the sports field. Yet this didn’t happen as Tyson bit off a chunk of Evander Holyfield’s ear during a 1997 match. A few years later, Tyson lost so much of this fortune that he was forced to file for bankruptcy, and in 2005, he announced his retirement.
Despite all of that, Tyson has managed to bounce back. He has a reported net worth of $3 million, with most of the money coming from the animated series “Mike Tyson Mysteries” and various media gigs.
