Mistresses are a thing among royals too. Charles and Camilla met at a polo match at Windsor Great Park. During that first encounter, Camilla reportedly made a joke about the fact that her great-grandmother had had a love affair with King Edward VII, saying, “She was the mistress of your great-great-grandfather. I feel we have something in common.”
Most of the world thought Charles and Diana were a charming royal couple, but Charles actually carried a torch for someone else, Camilla. Diana was aware that her husband had a mistress, and even confronted her about it at a party.
In spite of the backlash, Charles and Camilla married each other in 2005, and the union has been unpopular among Diana’s supporters since then.
