The Pentagon initiated an internal review in order to assess the leak’s impact on national security. The Pentagon immediately reduced the number of people who had any kind of access to briefings, according to a second defense official.
Pentagon officials are closely watching where the leaked slides are posted, and separately, the Justice Department has initiated a criminal investigation to figure out how the slides were leaked in the first place. According to CIA Director William Burns, this event is “deeply unfortunate”, adding that this is a sensitive matter that the U.S. government has decided to take very seriously.
