The Harry Potter author has been the subject of controversy for a few years now due to her gender beliefs and several anti-transgender tweets posted in 2020. At the time, Rowling argued that talking about gender identity negates biological sex. As a result, several celebs and Harry Potter actors have spoken out against Rowling’s beliefs, including Daniel Radcliffe.
In August 2022, the author published her new book, The Ink Black Heart, penned under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. In the novel, a YouTube-based cartoonist’s work is accused of being ableist, transphobic, and racist. But the plot isn’t based on Rowling’s own controversy — at least, that’s what Rowling claims.
Earlier this year, Rowling engaged in an online dispute with Nicola Sturgeon, the First Minister of Scotland. The author opposed the country’s Gender Recognition Reform Bill, which aims to make it easier for transgender people to legally change their gender by getting a gender recognition certificate.
