Long before he was the US president, Trump built a huge political support base on one topic: birtherism. In fact, he was the biggest public advocate of the nonsense theory that former President Barack Obama’s birth certificate was fake. According to him, Obama had secretly been born in Kenya.
Birtherism turned into a real issue that startled the Republican Party, producing the highly influential Tea Party movement. This conspiracy theory ended up putting doubts in the minds of nearly a quarter of Americans.
Even after Obama released his full birth certificate in 2011, Trump kept spreading conspiracies, and the tweet in the photo above would be one of the many examples.
