Tossing the bouquet

This particular tradition was first recorded in England in the 1700s, but it probably started way earlier, and it also comes from the idea that it was considered lucky to have a piece of the bride’s clothing. Single women would hurry to catch the bride after the big ceremony and tear off a little piece of her dress.

In order to avoid having her dress completely ruined, the bride would toss the bouquet as some sort of diversion and they would run to catch it.

Nowadays, it’s more about the bride having a very special moment with her friends who are single before embarking on married life.
