4. Arkansas

  • Population: 3,011,524
  • Violent crimes (per 100,000 people):  672
  • Homicides: 321

Arkansas may be a small state, but it ranks 4th among the most dangerous states to live in America. With 321 homicides, it has a higher murder rate than other much more populous states. On top of this, Arkansas has also seen a staggering 14.9% increase in violent incidents, with 80% of those being aggravated assaults.

Little Rock is the state capital, so it’s the busiest city. There were 939 reported incidents of violent crime for every 100,000 citizens, but this actually ranks below Arkansas’ most dangerous city, Pine Bluff, with a rate of more than 1,000 per 100,000.
