In the Air Tonight – Phil Collins

The theory that circles around this masterpiece are that Collins wrote the 1981 classic right after watching a man failing to save another person from drowning. The British artist then played the song in a concert, and allegedly shone the spotlight on the guilty person.

However, it seems that the truth is that Collins has absolutely “no idea” what actually inspired him to write the lyrics. Also, he admitted that he felt “anger, bitterness, and hurt” after his first wife left him, so maybe the truth is much simpler than that. What’s your take on this? What do you think inspired Phil Collins to write the song?
