3. Crown Finish Caves

Back in 1849, there was a fabulous brewery in popular Brooklyn, at the intersection of Bergen Street and Franklin Avenue. The place was a good one, and it had different owners and names over the years before taking up the moniker of Nassau Brewing Company.

But in 1866, the owners wanted to add some special things to make the place more interesting, so they added an icehouse to the intersection, and to connect the brewery with the icehouse, they built a tunnel.

The tunnel that was constructed more than 100 years ago is now occupied by Crown Finish Caves, a cheesemaker that uses this incredible place to age their stinky dairy products.

However, compared to the previous hidden underground places in NYC we discussed in this article, this one is available for visits, if you’re interested.

The tunnel can be visited during events and tours that are hosted in the space. For those who are tempted to explore one of the most historic subterranean spaces in Brooklyn, keep an eye open for the company’s future events.
